This runs against instinct, and it is the single most important thing to know about SoftGuard. Most protectors tell you to apply generously. Ours does not.
Over-applying works against you
Lay it on heavy and the treated fabric repels worse, not better. The wetting agents that help the product spread stay behind on the fibre — and they attract water.
Light coats beat one heavy one
Two or three light passes give far more even cover than a single soaking — using the same total product, not more. Even cover is what makes protection last.
More coats does not mean more product
Work out what a job needs from the area, not the number of coats. A 100 m² job needs the same litres whether you put it down in one pass or three.

What it does
- Repels water-based spills on treated fabric and leather
- Repels oil-based spills
- Buys you time to blot before a spill soaks in
- Does not change the look, feel or breathability of the material
What it does not do
- It is not waterproofing, and nothing is stainproof
- It is not a flame retardant — that is a different product entirely
- It does not clean. The surface must be clean and dry before treating.
- It is not permanent. Re-treat as the guidance for each product says.
